Dr. John Lambert

Dr. John Lambert, associate professor of International Business at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been appointed to serve on the Mississippi District Export Council.

Appointment to the council is granted by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce. Selection is based upon energetic leadership, position in the local business community, knowledge of day-to-day international operations, interest in export developments, and willingness and ability to devote time to council activities.

“It is quite humbling to be asked to serve on the Mississippi District Export Council. Mississippi exports reach all over the globe and range from agricultural products to timber, from chemicals to heavy industrial equipment, as well as sophisticated technology and aircraft,” said Lambert. “This is not all-inclusive, but is just a glimpse of the tremendous reach that Mississippi has in the world marketplace.”

The Mississippi DEC, follows a mission to be the best source of customized solutions for Mississippi businesses to compete and win in the global market place. Among its guiding principles is to form “strategic alliances” with strong regional international trade organizations (federal, and state partners, local universities, trade associations, etc.).

Lambert notes that the University's International Business program prepares students to meet the challenge of the global marketplace, and by working with members of the Mississippi District Export Council and other public and private sector executives, thereby bridges the gap from the comfort of the classroom to the dynamic environment of the real world.

“Our students need the experience of working on real-world, real-time business projects and through our IB program business leaders get to work with our students,” he said. “It is this alliance with the Mississippi District Export Council that opens doors for our students to advance their careers and go above and beyond the ordinary in their USM experience.”
