The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) presents the Wind Ensemble Concert on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program will include Symphony No. 5 “Elements” mov. 1: Sun in C by Julie Giroux, A Solemn Place by Wayne Oquin, Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber mov. 2: Scherzo by Paul Hindemith, and I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold by James M. David.

Symphony No. V “Elements” is a journey within Mother Nature, a journey inside ourselves,” stated composer Julie Giroux in her foreword. “[Sun in C describes] with notes and phrases how the Sun feels on your skin, the loneliness of a 10-billion-year life and the power of sustaining life here on Earth.”

This Wind Ensemble concert is partly in preparation for the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA). The USM Wind Ensemble had been selected from a blind recording to have the honor of performing in CBDNA at Arizona State University on February 2019.
