Three USM Students Earn Goldwater Scholarships for 2019; Most in Mississippi

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) sports a well-documented tradition of excellence in producing Goldwater Scholarship winners. And now the bar has been raised even higher as three USM students have earned the prestigious award for 2019.

Not since 1995 has the University seen three winners in the same year. No other Mississippi college or university had more than one winner for 2019. This year's trio brings the total number of USM Goldwater Scholarship recipients to a state-leading total of 24.

USM Gulf Park hosts Annual Awards Day Ceremony

Academic achievement, teaching, research, leadership and service by students, faculty, staff and community supporters were recognized April 23 at The University of Southern Mississippi's (USM) Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach during its annual Awards Day Ceremony, held at the Fleming Education Center Auditorium.

Coach Larry Calhoun, the star of the Move to Learn exercise break videos, will make an appearance at The University of Southern Mississippi's DuBard School for Language Disorders on Tuesday, May 7 to introduce administrators, teachers and students to the Move to Learn Initiative. A team from the Bower Foundation and the Mississippi Department of Education's Office of Healthy Schools will accompany Calhoun to present a live demonstration of the Move to Learn videos. The presentation will be held at 12:45 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. in the Development Room at the DuBard School on the Hattiesburg campus.
