Welcome to the daily email for media members that includes news and notes from The University of Southern Mississippi (USM). Today's message includes news releases about a special gala celebration being hosted by the University's National Pan-Hellenic Council, students receiving honors as part of the annual Student Awards Day at the Hattiesburg campus, and a preview of the Southern Arena Theatre's 43rdseason, beginning in June.

SPECIAL NOTE: All University of Southern Mississippi campuses and teaching sites will close on Thursday, April 18 at 1 p.m., due to a severe weather system that is expected to move through south Mississippi on Thursday afternoon and evening. Thursday afternoon and evening classes will not meet, and University offices will be closed. Both campuses will remain closed on Friday in conjunction with the Easter holiday.Offices will re-open for normal operating hours on Monday, April 22.

USM National Pan-Hellenic Council Set to Host Gala on May 4

The National Pan-Hellenic Council at The University of Southern Mississippi will host a special gala celebration at 7 p.m. on May 4 at the Thad Cochran Center ballrooms on the Hattiesburg campus.

Michael E. Cristal, International president of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.

The de Grummond Children's Literature Collection is one of North America's leading research centers in the field of children's literature. The Collection holds the original manuscripts and illustrations of more than 1,300 authors and illustrators, as well as 180,000+ published books dating from 1530 to the present.
