Renowned Civil Rights Activist Kathleen Cleaver to give Armstrong-Branch Lecture Feb. 19
Kathleen N. Cleaver, a prominent and influential figure in the American Civil Rights Movement who continues to fight for social justice across the country and around the world, will be the keynote speaker for the 2019 Armstrong-Branch Distinguished Lecture Series at The University of Southern Mississippi Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m., in Bennett Auditorium on the University's Hattiesburg campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
Cleaver's fight for human rights spans seven decades, ventures across national and international borders, and includes service with notable public interest organizations. She is best known for her involvement with the Black Panther Party and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee during the 1960s.

USM Hosts Economic Outlook Forum Today
The University of Southern Mississippi will host the Economic Outlook 2019 Forum today from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Thad Cochran Center ballroom on the Hattiesburg campus. The USM College of Business and Economic Development, along with the Trent Lott National Center, is coordinating the annual forum that brings together experts from banking, finance, and academia to explore a number of issues and research related to the economic outlook for 2019.

With Shortage of Social Workers, Grant Project Provides USM Grad Students Real-World Experience
Too few social workers in South Mississippi is a problem – but also an opportunity, judging from the results of a recently completed grant project between The University of Southern Mississippi and Coastal Family Health Center. Over nearly seven years, eight full-time social workers and a total of 82 master's-level social work students teamed up with health providers at seven of Coastal's 13 clinics in South Mississippi, creating a model for integrated care by providing indispensable mental and behavioral health services to patients.
International Percussion Festival Final Concert Set for February 16 at USM
The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music presents the final concert of the International Percussion Festival on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. at the Thirsty Hippo in Hattiesburg, Miss. The concert will feature a performance by guest artists Oscar Albrieu Roca and Javier Nandayapa as well as the Southern Miss Percussion Ensemble.
