Matthews Honored with Outstanding Alumni Award at Arts and Sciences Banquet

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) College of Arts and Sciences held its first faculty, staff, and alumni awards banquet on May 2 and recognized Ronald E. Matthews, class of 1988, as the recipient of the 2019 Outstanding Alumni Award for his extraordinary contributions to the field of construction management.

Matthews was born in Tylertown, Mississippi, and grew up in Summit, where he graduated from high school in 1984 before attending USM.

USM School of Accountancy Increases Advisory Board Membership

The Advisory Board for The University of Southern Mississippi's School of Accountancy experienced a dramatic percent increase in membership during the 2018-19 academic year, welcoming 11 new professionals to the group. Dr. Marvin Bouillon, director of the School of Accountancy, has worked diligently to increase membership and participation in the school's Advisory Board since he began in July 2018.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Coretta Scott King Award, and the de Grummond Children's Literature Collection at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) is celebrating with a new exhibit in its Cook Library. To commemorate this legacy, the de Grummond Collection has many of the award-winning books on display, as well as original artwork and manuscripts of past winners that include Angela Johnson, Ashley Bryan, Nikki Grimes, E.B. Lewis, and John Steptoe. The de Grummond gallery is located on the second floor of Cook Library, adjacent to the administrative office. The exhibit can be viewed 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.To schedule coverage, contact David Tisdale.
