USM Guest Artist Series presents Kadisha Onalbayeva October 11 & 12

Kadisha OnalbayevaThe University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Music presents its Guest Artist Series featuring Kadisha Onalbayeva, piano, on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Marsh Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.

Dr. Onalbayeva will perform a recital of works by Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Liszt, Michael Coleman, Gulzhan Uzenbeyeva, a world premiere by Lawrence Moss, and also compositions that she wrote. Onalbayeva will also host a Masterclass on Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. in Marsh. Both events are free and are open to the public.

Steinway Artist Onalbayeva is the Director of Piano Studies and Professor of Music at the University of Mobile. She is founder and currently serves as President of the Gulf Coast Steinway Society (Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, and Florida).

Recently, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan filmed a documentary on the life and musical career of Onalbayeva titled Independent National’s Heritage (2015).

“Onalbayeva is one of the great pianists of our time. Her playing deeply moves everyone who hears it, whether it is a true judge of art or an amateur listener,” said Music Director National String Quartet of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yearner Myntayev. “Her performance is marked with a high professional level, fiery temperament, generous array of colors and profoundly intelligent interpretation.”

“…Onalbayeva performs with an energy and excitement, which enthusiastically engages audiences...” said Maestro Claire Fox-Hillard of the Albany Symphony in Georgia.

Other Guest Artist events for the 2019-2020 season include: Alex Hayashi, oboe; Ryan Fogg, piano; Brian Hecht, bass trombone; and Young-Peiskee, Flute & Piano Duo.
