Call for Entries for 2019 Biennial National Juried Painting Exhibition

Bill Scott's HomageThe Gallery of Art and Design at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) has announced a call for entries for the 2019 National Juried Painting Exhibition. Artists from across the country are invited to submit entries of original works created within the past five years.

The 2019 National Juried Painting Exhibition will include a gallery exhibition, an awards ceremony, and juror’s lecture - celebrating the vitality and breadth of practice within contemporary painting throughout the United States. The exhibition is presented in part by the generous support of Partners for the Arts.

“This national juried biennial event was first organized in 2017 and featured a stunning array of paintings by 46 artists from across the U.S.,” said Mark Rigsby, Gallery Director for Art and Design. “This year we are thrilled to welcome renowned juror and visiting artist Bill Scott.”

Scott is a nationally and internationally recognized painter from Philadelphia. Scott is an expert colorist, known for his radiant paintings that blur the boundary between representation and abstraction. Scott is represented by Hollis Taggart Galleries, New York, where he has had seven solo exhibitions.

He has also had solo shows in London, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. His work is in public collections at the Asheville Art Museum, North Carolina; British Museum; Cleveland Museum of Art; and Philadelphia Museum of Art, among others. 

This national juried exhibition is open to all U.S. residents,18 years of age or older. Entries must have been completed within the last 5 years. Works in any painting medium (oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, etc.), and all forms of representational and non-representational painting are eligible. Entries must not exceed 60x72 inches and should weigh no more than 30 lbs.
