The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Gulf Coast Library on the Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach is home to four exhibits this fall featuring Gulf Coast artists. The public is invited to attend an artist reception at the library Nov. 20 from 4-6 p.m., where all artists will be in attendance to talk about their work.

Tracy Williams’ exhibit “A Posh Vertical Picnic: Serving up Ink Drawings on Paper Plates” features the unconventional medium of paper plates creating four distinct collections that include mermaids, robots, drag queens and girls. She uses an inexpensive paper plate for her drawings, and the fluted edges serve as a frame for her drawings.

Vicki Waite Broussard is a self-taught jewelry designer who uses beads, freshwater pearls, and precious stones in her pieces. Her exhibit “Mountain Heart, Jewelry by Vicki Waite Broussard” showcases the unique aspects of the stones and materials used in her jewelry.

“Art in Glass, Glass Artwork by Alicia Hendricks” is a collection of wind chimes, dishes, and necklace pendants by Alicia Hendricks. Hendricks has spent the last several years designing fused glass jewelry, which she also sells at festivals along the Gulf Coast.

Dave Jones has been drawing and painting since he was 12 years old, when he saw his first abstract painting by Jasper Johns. His exhibit “Flurries, Abstract Paintings by Dave Jones” features works shown in approximately 70 one-man and group gallery exhibitions.

“This is the first time we have had four artists exhibiting at the same time in the library,” said Jamie Stanfield, Gulf Coast Library’s science, nursing, and health librarian and exhibits coordinator. “Having a reception for all four artists at once will hopefully increase their exposure to each other, and those in our community.”

The exhibits are displayed on the first, second and third floors of the library, and all pieces in each exhibit are available for purchase.
