USM Human Capital Development Doctoral Graduate Named Vice Chancellor at Fletcher Technical Community College

Dr. Mark McLean, a 2019 graduate of the Department of Human Capital Development within the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Professional Development at The University of Southern Mississippi was recently named Vice Chancellor for Finance & Administration at Fletcher Technical Community College in Schriever, Louisiana.

In his new role, his responsibilities will include a wide range of administrative, budgetary, compliance, and student-life services, among other functions, while maintaining a collaborative working relationship with faculty, staff, and student groups and committees in program and policy development.

Dr. McLean previously served as the Assistant Chair of Business Studies and Associate Professor at Delgado Community College for the past 10 years. In his dissertation, entitled “Essential Leadership Competencies for College Presidents in a Metrics-Driven Community College System,” Dr. McLean “identifies and prioritizes the essential leadership competencies for college presidents in a metrics-driven environment.” Formerly, Dr. McLean held various director-level roles in domestic and international locations for Deloitte, a global management consulting firm.

In 2015, USM Gulf Park's Department of Human Capital Development recognized Dr. McLean as a “Guest Guru" for his selfless extension of his time, expertise, and mentorship for students of the Human Capital Development program. Additionally, in 2017 Dr. McLean was awarded the Drs. Jack and Patti Philips Human Capital Analytics Award for demonstrating expertise in the ROI methodology, showing excellence in the area of human capital analytics, consistently applying critical thinking to projects and problem solving, and using analytics to drive organizational improvement.

“The pursuit of my Ph.D. through the Human Capital Development Program at USM provided an exceptional opportunity to engage with dedicated faculty and experienced industry professionals,” McLean said. “I strongly encourage the program for anyone seeking to develop and unleash the expertise of human capital in their own organization and in their community.” The Department of Human Capital Development is a nationally respected program that develops leaders and prepares graduates to improve organizational performance through talent and workforce development and performance improvement.

In addition to a Ph.D. in Human Capital Development from USM, Dr. McLean holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University New Orleans.
