USM Psychology Graduate Students Earn Externships

Seven doctoral candidates in The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Psychology’s School Psychology program have been awarded paid externships at New Summit School in Jackson, Mississippi.

Founded in 1997, New Summit School is a full-time, co-educational school offering classes for students in grades K-12 and focused on providing exceptional and innovative educational services for students with diverse learning styles. New Summit School is a part of New Learning Resources School District that also encompasses the Mississippi Dyslexia Center, South Summit School, Oxford University School, North New Summit School and The Spectrum Academy at New Summit School.

Externship recipients include:

*Halley Blanchard, Napoleonville, Louisiana

*Lauren Layman, Atlanta, Georgia

*Parker Lundy, Purvis, Mississippi

*Lauren Peak, Brandon, Mississippi

*Andrew J. Rózsa, III, Indian Springs, Alabama

*Caitlyn Weaver, Buffalo, New York

“Dr. Nancy New (director of the New Summit School) and her staff have allowed for us a wonderful opportunity to consult and collaborate directly with teachers, behavior analysts, and behavior technicians to bring quality services to children and families,” said Dr. Joe Olmi, professor of psychology and director of the School Psychology Program. “We’re honored to be part of her organization.”
