The University of Southern Mississippi is again partnering with retail giant JC Penney to help students dress for success with a Suit-Up event set for Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Turtle Creek Mall store location in Hattiesburg, Miss.

JC Penney will extend its regular Sunday business hours to accommodate USM students exclusively from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. During this period, students will receive up to 60 percent off all professional wear, accessories and shoes – practically anything they might need for an interview, class presentation, or related function.

“This unique event provides an opportunity for students to acquire professional clothing and accessories at significant discounts,” said Kathy Killam, assistant director of Career Services at USM. “This, along with services provided by Career Services, such as resume reviews, mock interviews, job searching, and hosting the upcoming Career & Internship Expo, enables students to prepare themselves for their professional interviews and opportunities.”

Sephora will have free mini makeovers and samples during the event, and the salon will have free consultations. Students can pre-register for the event through Handshake (https://app.joinhandshake.com/events/176828) and be entered into a drawing for a $100 Gift Card from Career Services This event is for USM students only, so they must bring their Student ID.

USM students will have a chance to model their new attire as part of the Career & Internship Expo, set for Oct. 8, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg campus. Students can seek out part-time job/internship opportunities, practice speaking skills, discover careers in their major, talk with graduate schools and even land an entry level job/interviews.

This expo represents a supreme networking event for all students, with more than 80 companies from across the nation expected to participate. Students are encouraged to bring a supply of resumes and dress professionally.
