The College of Business and Economic Development at The University of Southern Mississippi is encouraging students to begin the Spring 2019 semester by applying for the Eagle Scholars program.

Through this scholarship and leadership development program, Eagle Scholars receive $8,000 per year, the possibility of a study abroad scholarship, and the opportunity to participate in a series of professional development programs.

“The Eagle Scholars program is a wonderful opportunity to combine a scholarship with skills development sessions and interactions with key executives that visit Southern Miss. We hope that students will take a moment to complete the application and be a part of this distinguished tradition,” said Dr. Stacey A. Hall, acting dean of the College of Business and Economic Development.

Scholarship recipients are selected based on several criteria, including work ethic, clear goals for the future, commitment to finish their degrees and willingness to participate in extra programs meant to enhance their collegiate experiences. Scholarships are renewable annually, and program activities parallel the student's stage in the process

Among the requirements for eligibility:

  • Be majoring in a business discipline at Southern Miss
  • Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Have a financial need
  • Provide evidence of integrity and trustworthiness
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic
  • Articulate clear goals for the short and long term, and
  • Demonstrate the character and commitment to complete their business degree

The Eagle Scholars' Program is an endowed fund so that people can contribute to this fund without having to endow a new scholarship or meet minimum requirements. The deadline for application is Feb. 15.
