Keiyana Gaskin, a senior accounting major at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been awarded the prestigious Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) scholarship for 2019-20.
Gaskin, a Vicksburg, Miss., native, is also a member of the USM women’s track and field team. Just one student from more than 300 colleges and universities nationwide are chosen to receive the $10,000 scholarship.
This marks the second straight year that a student in USM’s College of Business and Economic Development has earned the PCAOB award. Last year’s recipient was Kameshia Mays.
“We are very proud of Keiyana and this accomplishment. The $10,000 PCAOB Scholarship is a career-changer for students,” said Dr. Marvin Bouillon, Director of USM’s School of Accountancy. “This will allow her to start her MPA program next summer with a study abroad course. That experience will be something she cherishes for the rest of her life.”
The PCAOB scholarship program is merit-based and students eligible to receive a PCAOB scholarship must:
- Be enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in accounting at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university;
- Demonstrate interest and aptitude in accounting and auditing;
- Demonstrate high ethical standards; and
- Not be a PCAOB employee or a child or spouse of a PCAOB employee. (Note: This includes all full-time and part-time employees of the PCAOB, including interns, and independent consultants who are natural persons.)
Gaskin aspires to study abroad and, upon graduation, pursue her master's degree.
