USM Vocal Arts and Science Symposium Features Special Performance by O Sole Trio

Wed, 01/30/2019 - 10:51am | By: Mike Lopinto

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Music will host all-day events of the Vocal Arts and Science Symposium on Feb. 1-2 in both Marsh Auditorium and the Intermezzo @ Woods Gallery on the Hattiesburg campus.

While the Vocal Arts and Science Symposium is an educational, interdisciplinary, and interactive experience, the culminating performance by O Sole Trio is a musical showcase of virtuosic proportions. The show, part of the School of Music's Connoisseurs Chamber Music Series, and commissioned by the Lincoln Center in New York, appeals to all age groups and bears historical significance.

“The event is a great chance to hear beautiful voices and see virtuosic displays of musicianship,” said associate professor of voice and graduate coordinator, Dr. Kimberley Davis. “Especially when David performs with the piano and the violin at the same time!”

O Sole Trio is a group comprised of performers Erin Shields, Giuseppe Spoletini, and David Shenton that tours extensively throughout the United States. The trio proudly provides educational outreach concerts and masterclasses to children of all ages and economic backgrounds.

Other symposium guests include:  Dr. Scott McCoy, Voice Area Head at The Ohio State University and author of Your Voice: An Inside View; and Dr. Matthew Edwards, Director of the musical theatre program and the Contemporary Commercial Music Institute at Shenandoah Conservatory.

All the events are free to USM students and are open to the public. Registration is $70 for both days or $45 for a single day if you register before the conference. Onsite registration is $95 for both days. Visit usm.edu/music/events for more details.
