The USM Wind Ensemble will be in concert on March 7.

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Wind Ensemble presents its Concerto Concert on March 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mannoni Performing Arts Center (MPAC) on the Hattiesburg campus. This event is free and is open to the public.

The winners from the concerto competition that was held in the 2018 Fall semester have earned an opportunity to perform with the prestigious Wind Ensemble for this performance.

These featured soloists are Brianna Mansbart with Gotkovsky's Concerto for Alto Saxophone; Katerina Bachevska with Saint-Saen's Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso; Cesar Mateo Martinez with Hummel's Adagio – Theme and Variations. Another winner, Camilo Aramburo, will be featured separately with the Symphonic Winds in April with his rendition of Jacob's Concerto for Bassoon and Strings arranged for winds.

Conducting these pieces will be graduate conducting majors Brandon Jenkins, Mark Johnson, and Michael Flynn.

“Not only will this be a great concert showcasing the young talent at Southern Miss, but it is also a fantastic opportunity for our graduate conducting students to hone their skills,” said Director of Bands Dr. Catherine Rand.
