USM AFROTC Graduates Honored

Two University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC, Detachment 432) graduates earned special recognition, along with their officer commissioning, at the conclusion of the spring 2020 semester.

The graduates and their honors are as follows:

*Trey A. Fisher, 2nd lt., of Mason City, Iowa, who earned a bachelor’s degree in forensics, is recipient of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) Award. The National Defense Industrial Association recognizes one cadet per year, per detachment who demonstrates high academic achievement, rates in the upper 20 percent of his unit, participates in athletic or campus programs, and demonstrates outstanding leadership qualities.

*Seth N. McNelley, 2nd lt., of Biloxi, Mississippi, who earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, is the Gold Medal Winner of The Daughters of the American Revolution Award. The Daughters of the American Revolution recognize one cadet per year, per detachment, who demonstrates loyalty and patriotism, holds a record of military and scholastic achievement while in ROTC, rates in the upper 25th percentile academically, shows qualities of dependability and good character, adheres to military discipline, leadership ability, and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of ROTC training.

For nearly 40 years, the USM AFROTC Detachment 432 has been educating and training students to become Air Force officers while they complete a college degree. Air Force ROTC cadets participate in ROTC classes, leadership laboratory, physical training, and cadet organizations.
