The Frances A. Karnes Center for Gifted Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) will host the first “virtual” version of its annual Day of Sharing for Teachers live on Friday, April 17, at 9 a.m. Central Time, via Zoom.us. This event is free and open to all teachers, but registration is required.

Guest speakers for this year’s Day of Sharing include William Knudson from the National Association for Gifted Children and Tracy Inman from Western Kentucky University. Local speakers include Jen Cornett from the Mississippi Department of Education and Svetlana Lucas from Lamar County Schools.

The event’s agenda also features a guided discussion on distance learning, as well as its signature Time for Sharing, during which attendees share their best tips and techniques for reaching students during this time of distance learning, as schools remain closed in a statewide effort to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

“We’re so excited to bring the Day of Sharing to the Web this year,” said Dr. Heather Houston, director of the Center. “Going online means we’re not limited to offering the event’s training to educators in our local area, but can provide uplifting and encouraging content for teachers anywhere.”

Invitations to join the Zoom Day of Sharing meeting will only be e-mailed to registered attendees. Continuing Education Units (0.5) are available for $25. Visit Karneskaleidoscope.blog to register.
