Economic trends and forecasts will be the primary focus of the 2020 Economic Outlook Forum, set for March 5 at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg campus. The event will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the TCC grand ballroom.

The USM College of Business and Economic Development and Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship are coordinating the annual forum that brings together experts from banking, finance, and academia to explore a number of issues and research related to the economic outlook for 2020.

Dr. Bret Becton, Dean of USM’s College of Business and Economic Development, notes that the annual forum provides valuable insight not only for the Pine Belt community, but the entire South Mississippi region.

“The Economic Outlook Forum gives us a unique opportunity to learn about what is going on in the national, state, and local economies in one sitting,” he said. “This is extremely useful for the business community in planning for the year, setting goals and determining priorities based on the state of the economy and the economic outlook for the coming year.”

Forum speakers include:

  • Jack McCabe, a Research Specialist in the Economic Policy and Research Group at the American Bankers Association where he focuses on macroeconomics and banking.
  • Ashley Edwards, the CEO of the Gulf Coast Business Council and a USM College of Business and Economic Development alumnus.
  • Adrienne Slack, Vice President and Regional Executive of the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta, New Orleans Branch. She is also a USM alumna.

The forum will be hosted by The University of Southern Mississippi, the College of Business and Economic Development, and the Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship. The First -- a National Banking Association is serving as title sponsor.

The forum is open to the public but attendees must register prior to attending. For more information call 601.266.4659 or visit: https://www.usm.edu/business/economic_outlook_forum.php
