Kimberly Patterson, cello, and Patrick Sutton, guitarThe University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Music presents its Guest Artist Series featuring the Patterson & Sutton Duo on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Marsh Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus. This event is free and is open to the public.

Kimberly Patterson, cello, and Patrick Sutton, guitar, make up the trailblazing Patterson & Sutton Duo. The Duo continues to push the boundaries of the repertoire by commissioning new music for cello and guitar from top composers such as Stephen Goss and Ricardo Iznaola.

“Everything is performed with excellence and sensitivity,” stated composer and guitarist Dušan Bogdanović in a review on the debut album “Cold Dark Matter”. “I especially like the beautiful tone and sense of lyricism, though the virtuosity of both is apparent.”

“I have been so impressed by this duo for a number of years,” said Professor of Music Dr. Nicholas Ciraldo. “They keep innovating the art form with their incredible performances, relentless pursuit of new music, and creative and international educational outreach initiatives.”

The duo has been featured on Performance Today, American Public Media, Radio New Zealand, and Fine Music Radio South Africa. Their research in the field of cello and guitar performance has also culminated in lecture-recitals at the Dublin Guitar Symposium, International Guitar Research Center Conference in the UK, and the Guitar Foundation of America Convention.
