Undergraduate Symposium on Research and Creative Activity (UGS), set for April 9 on the Hattiesburg campusStudents from all academic disciplines at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) interested in sharing their research efforts with a wider audience at a professional conference are encouraged to participate in the Undergraduate Symposium on Research and Creative Activity (UGS), set for April 9 on the Hattiesburg campus. The deadline for submissions is March 9.

The event will be co-hosted by USM’s Drapeau Center for Undergraduate Research (DCUR) and Honors College, and generously supported by USM alumnus Donald Drapeau along with various USM entities, community businesses and organizations.

The event will feature oral and poster presentations, an arts showcase, and a keynote address delivered by a USM alumna or alumnus. Throughout the day, numerous faculty volunteers judge the students’ presentations, and graduate students serve as moderators for the presentation panels.

The UGS will conclude with an awards ceremony, where winners in more than a dozen presentation categories are announced and, through the generosity of Donald Drapeau, receive cash prizes.

“I have participated in planning and organizing UGS since 2014, and, for me, the event is the highlight of each spring semester, showcasing the outstanding work of our undergraduate students,” said Dr. Sabine Heinhorst, director of the Drapeau Center for Undergraduate Research.
