  • Career fields/occupations/industries of interest
  • Knowledge, skills, abilities and job responsibilities
  • Geographical locations of interest to you as well as locations of employers that hire in your field
  • Types of employers and organizations
  • Work values and other criteria (i.e. environmental sustainability, job security, etc.).

Prepare your Application Materials

Most internships/pathways applications will require:

  • A spotless employer-ready resume
  • An online profile/application

Additional items that may be required include:

  • A cover letter/introductory e-mail
  • Official or unofficial copies of your transcript
  • A portfolio of your professional and academic work
  • List of 3-5 professional references with contact information
  • A writing sample or reflection piece that may include why you are hoping to secure the internship and how this experience fits within your long-term goals.

Finally most internship/pathways application processes will include 1-3 interviews prior to an offer. These interviews can take place at the company/organization site, on-campus, job fairs/networking events, by phone or Skype/other teleconferencing options.
