Welcome to The University of Southern Mississippi Police Department!

Message from the chief:

Welcome to The University of Southern Mississippi Police Department home page. This site reflects our commitment to providing innovative, community specific, and relevant services to the public we serve. It is our hope that you will find everything here that you need to know about safety, security, and police services.

Since we last modified our welcome page I am proud to announce The University of Southern Mississippi Police Department has attained Accreditation status through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. We are one of two universities in the state of Mississippi to hold this status through the commission. This accreditation came about as the result of three years of review with the overall purpose to assure the university community that the police department is continuously improving the delivery and quality of the service we provide.

Our home page is designed to facilitate easy access to our most requested information on programs and services, crime information, and our annual report, which contains comprehensive crime statistics for The University of Southern Mississippi campus. In an effort to better serve the community, we have added additional pages that will help answer questions that you may have. A new FAQ page will contain information regarding anthrax and biological threats, information on lost and found property, and answers to frequently asked questions regarding police procedure. In addition you will find pages that contain information about workplace violence, a lighting comments form, and information pertaining to our campus security officers (night security). We have also added an Online Survey that will afford the community that we serve an opportunity to evaluate the services that are provided by the University Police Department.

The University Police Department understands the overall academic mission of the university and strives to play a vital role in enhancing that mission. Concern for the community's well-being, a desire to provide service and assistance whenever possible, and a constant desire to support the academic environment are all factors inherent in the department's daily operations and policies.

Remember, information and personal awareness are your most powerful weapons for protecting yourself. If the information you are seeking is not contained on this Web site, please contact our department 266-4986. We will be happy to provide you with any additional information you need or take suggestions as to how we can serve you more effectively.
