Research Support

All human subjects research conducted by Southern Miss faculty, students and staff requires prior approval by the University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB). The IRB is responsible for ensuring that proposed research meets the relevant federal and institutional standards and guidelines. All investigations and experiments involving human subjects in any way, regardless of funding source, must be reviewed and sanctioned by the IRB before beginning the research.

The Office of Research has a list of Frequently Asked Questions, from where to look for external funding to where to find forms to a guide to understanding F&A and fringe costs.

Innovation Awards celebrate the outstanding scholarly careers of our most productive and influential faculty members in the areas of basic research, applied research, creative activities, and academic partnerships. The University Research Council solicits nominations from each dean for the annual Innovation Awards. Faculty members can make recommendations to their chairs, who will provide a list of names to the dean.
