Grant Support for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity

 

Drapeau Summer Research Grant Program 

The Drapeau Summer Research Grant Program supports undergraduate students engaged in full-time research or creative activity for at least eight weeks during the summer at Southern Miss. Awardees receive a $4,000 summer stipend and may request up to $1,000 additional funding to support their project. The Center awards one or two summer grants each year, depending on available funds. The competition for this award is held annually during the spring semester. This program is made possible by generous contributions from our alumnus, Mr. Donald Drapeau.

The application deadline is April 1, 2019.

Eagle SPUR Program

The Eagle SPUR Program (combination of the previous Eagle SPUR and Eagle Wings programs) supports all aspects of undergraduate research and creative activity at Southern Miss with grants of up to $1,000 for one- or two-semester projects and activities. Grant money may be used for travel (e.g. to present at a conference, perform at a show, visit an archive, etc.), equipment, supplies, a stipend that allows you to devote time to your research project, etc. Competitions for the Eagle SPUR awards are held twice annually. This program is supported by generous contributions from our alumnus, Mr. Donald Drapeau, and from the Southern Miss Vice President for Research.

Application deadlines are October 15 and April 1.

NCUR Travel Support

Students wishing to present their research or creative activity at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) may apply to the Center for travel and lodging support. The Center typically makes four awards, depending on available funds. This program is supported by generous contributions from the Southern Miss Vice President for Research. More information on NCUR 2019 can be found here. 

The application deadline (early November) is announced in October, at which time you can apply.
