Cohort Hybrid Delivery Format for M.Ed.
The Master's Degree Program runs on a cohort, four (4) semester system.
Two cohorts to choose from:
Spring On-Line all four semesters, students meet with the professors 100% on-line.
Summer Hybrid all four semesters - students come to USM for 3 weeks, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. to meet with the professors as a cohort then return home to finish the semester of 2 more weeks on-line. The Fall and Spring semesters are totally on-line. The following summer, the students return to USM for their final semester for 3 weeks, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Both cohorts have a working internship each semester.
Licensure and/or Certification is a function of each state’s department of education, and requirements for licensure certification vary from state to state. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of his/her state’s current requirements for licensure certification and ensure that all current requirements are met through completed coursework. The College of Education and Psychology certification officer who assists students with filing appropriate licensure and/or certification paperwork, but it is the student’s responsibility to provide the necessary forms. For these reasons, students seeking licensure and/or certification are encouraged to stay current with licensure certification regulations within their respective states. Plan of Study
The Cohort Hybrid Delivery Format - Plan of Study
Block I – First Semester - Summer - 3 wks. at USM - 2 wks. on-line
Block II - Second Semester - On-Line - Fall
Block III - Third Semester - On-Line - Spring
Block IV - Summer - 3 wks. at USM - 2 wks. On-line
The requirements for consideration for entering the Master's program at USM in ELSC:
1. Three successful years of teaching in a K-12 school.
2. GRE requirements met by USM Graduate School.
3. Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0.
4. Transcripts given to USM Graduate School.
5. Application fees paid to USM Graduate School.
6. Face-to-face interview with department admissions committee.
7. Three letters of recommendations using the ELSC Department's forms. All must be from professionals who have supervised applicants. One should be a letter of recommendation from the school district.
8. Portfolio of teaching and leadership experiences.
9. Access to school administrators who will agree to serve as mentors over four semesters.
