School of Social Science and Global Studies

Our school has undergone some notable changes in the past decade. We added the International Development Ph.D. program and the undergraduate economics program left the College of Business and became part of the department.

Today, as a result, we offer undergraduate degrees in Political Science, Legal Studies, and Economics. We offer Masters of Science in International Development, Master of Arts in Political Science, and a Ph.D. in International Development. We also offer minors in Political Science, American Studies, Economics, Legal Studies, Human Rights, and Campaigns and Elections.

Faculty members include nine political scientists, four economists, two lawyers (legal studies faculty), and one geographer. Faculty research and teaching interests include religion and politics; media and popular political culture; race theory; human rights and protest movements; economics in the Middle East; the economics of health, technology, development, and sovereignty among others. All full-time faculty have advanced degrees from a wide spectrum of universities including University of Florida, University of Michigan, University of Georgia, Hofstra University, Wisconsin at Milwaukee, University of Utah, University of Pennsylvania, North Texas University, Southern Illinois, Old Dominion, Ole Miss, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Louisiana State University.
