BSW Program Director's Welcome

I am so elated you are considering a career in social work. Choosing a career is perhaps one of the most challenging decisions you will ever make and one that requires careful, informative thought and consideration.

If you are a person who realizes the importance of building/restoring/enhancing relationships, who embraces diversity, who loves challenges, who believes in the dignity and worth of individuals, who is open minded, who is willing to equip yourself with the knowledge, values and skills needed to effectively provide service to others, who is willing to advocate for what is fair and just, who can meet others where they are, who is flexible, who has an engaging personality, who is willing to take care of yourself so that you can deal with life’s stressors, who is looking for a career where you can work with various populations, in a variety of settings, using an array of intervention techniques, or who is willing to develop the above, this might be the profession for you!

Our BSW program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and prepares students as beginning level generalist professional social work practitioners and/or to take the next step in their professional education and pursue the MSW degree. We are committed to preparing students for competent and ethical social work practice informed by the culture and history of the Gulf South.

If the aforementioned information is appealing to you, come aboard and join us in the school of social work! The relationships you will develop with your fellow students and our faculty will serve as some of the highlights of your undergraduate experience. We won’t promise you a bed of roses, but a journey filled with challenges, rewards, and opportunities for growth… and upon successful completion of the university and course requirements, a BSW degree (smile).
