Michelle Brazeal

Instructor & Director of the Mississippi Integrated Health & Disaster Program

Michelle Brazeal, LCSW, joined the faculty at The University of Southern Mississippi in 2011 and currently serves as a visiting instructor. In 2013, she assumed the role of Program Director for the Mississippi Integrated Health and Disaster Program (MIHDP). MIHDP is a project funded through the Medical Settlement following the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. The primary goal of the program is to improve population health through the development and enhancement of integrated health services. 

Licensed in the State of Alabama as an LICSW, Ms. Brazeal comes to USM with a diverse clinical and administrative background. 

Ms. Brazeal received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of South Alabama. She obtained her Masters in Social Work from the University of Alabama and is currently working toward her PhD.  

Ms. Brazeal’s current research focuses on the role that mental health plays in the development and management of chronic disease. This interest was developed through her work in primary care clinics developing integrated health care systems. In addition, she has assisted with the development of technology solutions that can bridge the gap between medical electronic health records and the needs of behavioral health clinicians.
