Meet Nneka Ayozie

What’s your title? Assistant Director of the USM Center for Community Engagement

What does that mean? In this role, I coordinate the Alternative Service Break and REACH Work-Study programs in addition to advising our department sponsored student organization, Volunteer USM.

What is your hometown? Thee great Jackson, MS

What are your hobbies? What’s your passion? My hobbies include traveling, swimming, fishing, tennis, cooking, and creating new experiences. I am passionate about helping students succeed and serve in the community. It is the very reason I chose to work in Community Engagement. I always want to give back to the communities that have given so much to me.

When did you first hear about Southern Miss? I learned of Southern Miss when my god sister decided to attend in 2004. The first time I visited the school was to attend her probate.

What is your best or most favorite skill or strength? My favorite skill is probably relationship building. My top strengths (via StrengthsQuest) are Relator, Restorative, Woo, Strategic, and Communication.

What college professor or advisor do you most admire? The professor that I admire most would probably be my undergraduate advisor and Mass Comm professor, Dr. Andrea Dilworth. Her ability to challenge while also supporting her students to be the best that they could be is unmatched. She has a large part in developing me into the professional that I am today.
