Meet Sherrice Wright

Sherrice WrightIf there is a woman on this campus that can do it all, it is Sherrice Wright! Sherrice is a senior political science major with a public relations minor, and she is ready to take on the world come this May. She has been involved in many organizations throughout her years at Southern Miss, but this year she is serving as the National Pan-Hellenic Council President (NPHC), a member of Southern Style, and the chaplain for the Mu Nu chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Sherrice has gone above and beyond with including the DSA mission (health, connections, and learning) in her academic career. With every leadership position she has learned something new about herself and what it means to be a leader. “I really don’t think that the freshman version of myself would even recognize that I’m the same person.  I remember coming to campus and telling myself that this would be my chance to do everything I was too afraid to do in high school.”

Sherrice was a part of Freshman Associates in 2018 and the then SGA President, McKenna Stone, made her feel like she could do anything she put her mind to and she could make a difference on the Southern Miss campus. Everything soared from there!

Sherrice won the title of Homecoming Queen this year and attributes her win to the people she has connected with in her leadership journey. “My mom taught me how to balance my drive and compassion. It’s a lesson I’m still learning, but I’m a better woman because she wanted better for me and those I love. Asia Montgomery taught me what it means to be kind and confident; she’s seen so much potential in me and all I could be. Asia pushed me to want better for myself in all aspects in life. Ms. Valencia Walls has been a constant inspiration as far as caring for others. She’s so selfless in the ways that she gives back to Southern Miss.”

Sherrice was also a First-Year Mentor for the Honors College Leadership Council where she connected with freshman Honors students and helped them make connections in their formative, first year at Southern Miss.

With all these responsibilities, she has also made sure to take care of herself. Something most people don’t know is that Sherrice loves to collect vinyl records. A few of her favorite records are Love Letters from Elvis and Youth by Citizen.

Sherrice Wright is a woman of many talents, and we can’t wait to see where her education takes her next. Wherever she goes, she will soar!
