Spotlighting Students #5

We're happy to spotlight Corai Jackson, a Junior from Jackson, MS, who is involved with Leadership and Student Involvement!

What campus activities are you involved with?

Leadership and Student Involvement desk assistant, Student Involvement Ambassador, Luckyday Scholar, SGA Senator, AASO Parliamentarian, McNair Scholar, JUMP Scholar Ambassador, Psychology Club, and Psi Chi Honor Society

What are you looking forward to most this semester?

I am most looking forward to meeting new students through my work with the involvement Ambassadors and helping them get plugged in at Southern Miss.

What class do you think you’ll like the most?

My mentoring students class

How do you think your campus involvement might contribute to your future success?

Well, I am looking to pursue a career in Industrial Organizational Psychology. As a psychologist, I will be responsible for interacting with employees and executives, etc. Therefore, I will need a robust skill set to aid me in serving all different types of people in this line of work; something I feel I gained through my involvement and leadership experiences at Southern Miss.

Think back to your first semesters at Southern Miss. What did you not expect but are now pleased about?

I did not expect to get so involved on campus and I did not expect to pursue any leadership roles, however, I feel that those organizations and leadership positions I have gotten involved with have allowed me to grow as a member of the Southern Miss community and as a student leader.

What advice would you have for your younger self?

Do not be afraid to try new things and step out of your comfort zone. It is okay to fail, because that is how you grow and learn.

What would you like to do after graduation?

I will be going to graduate school pursuing an organizational psychology PhD.

What will you miss most about Southern Miss?

I will miss the faculty and staff who have shaped me that I have encountered over my 4 years as well as the students who I have developed such close relationships with.
