The Jump Scholars Program is a five-week summer program at Southern Miss designed to give incoming freshmen a jump start on their college experience.
Students chosen to be Jump Scholars will take three classes taught by outstanding faculty in a small, friendly group environment, allowing for lots of individual attention and mentoring.
In addition, Scholars learn how to use all the resources Southern Miss has to offer, from the library to the writing center to the on-campus health clinic.
We pay particular attention to helping new students learn to network; in addition to the new friends you'll make in class, you'll be introduced to faculty, USM alumni, and working professionals in your field, contacts that can help you later on with internships, jobs, and career advice.
Three classes in five weeks is intense, so we have lots of activities to help you unwind and have fun: field trips, ice cream socials, movie nights, and more!
The connections you'll make and the things you'll learn in the Jump Scholars Program mean that when the rest of the freshman class arrives in August, you'll:
