Bonn, the postwar capital of Germany until reunification occurred in the 1990s, is a picturesque city of 300,000 inhabitants situated on the Rhine River. The birthplace of Beethoven, Bonn is a leading city of music and culture and a popular university town.
The Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelm Universität Bonn was founded in 1818 under Friedrich Wilhelm III, King of Prussia. Today the University of Bonn has a student population of more than 38,000, including 2,500 foreign students from more than 100 countries. Einfuhrungskurs (orientation course)-a four-week, four-credit-hour course, is required of all participants. It begins September 1, prior to start of the Wintersemester, and provides language instruction, lectures, seminars, tours, concerts, and theater performances. Wintersemester-Deutsch Intensivkurs (intensive language course; 12 credit hours). Choose two to three additional courses through Akademisches Auslandsamt or the regular university. Sommersemester-select courses according to Southern Miss curriculum requirements.
