What to Expect
|Blackboard is on online learning environment. If you're taking an online class, or your face-to-face class has an online component, your professor will be using Blackboard to post course materials. Log into Blackboard with your SOAR user name (e.g. w1111110 and SOAR password. If you've forgotten your password, call 601.266.HELP for assistance). You may also be required to upload assignments to Blackboard or take online exams and quizzes, and your grades may be posted there as well. Using SOAR to:
• Enroll in classes
|SOAR is the program the university uses to store all your records, and you will need to know how to use it to enroll in classes. The Learning Enhancement Center offers excellent online training materials in both written and video form to familiarize you with all the functions SOAR performs.|
|Forgotten SOAR password|
Eagle Alert (emergency notification system)
iTech is responsible for the technology on campus, and they can help you with password problems, wifi activation, email issues, and on-campus telephone service. Visit the help desk on the first floor of Cook Library, view tutorials on the iTech webpage, or call 266-HELP for assistance.
Gulf Coast students needing assistance with technology on campus should call the iTech Help Desk in Hattiesburg.
Loans for Computer Purchase
|If you need additional loan money to allow you to purchase a computer, Financial Aid may be able to help by raising your loan allowance amount. You apply for the additional loan through SOAR by following the path: Self Service > Student Center > Finances > Revise My Financial Aid|

|There are two main places on the Hattiesburg campus that provide printing and copying services: Cook Library and the Image Center located on the bottom floor of the Thad Cochran Center. The Image Center is open M-F 8-5 and offers large format color printing, binding, mounting, and photo services. On the Gulf Coast, students can print at the Gulf Coast Library.|
SOAR Error Messages
|There are a number of reasons that you might be blocked for enrollment. It might be that your enrollment window has not yet opened (check your Student Center in SOAR for the exact time your window), the class you're trying to enroll in might already be full (see A&L Tips for advice on getting into a closed class), or there might be a hold on your account. A hold could be the result of an unpaid bill, a required 099 enrollment that has not been fulfilled, or a hold from the athletic department if you are an athlete. You should be able to tell from your Student Center what the problem is by clicking on the Do-Not-Enter sign, but for a complete guide to registration holds and the office to contact to have them removed, check out the Registrar's Office's helpful guide.|
