Itta Bena Study

The Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce requested a study be conducted by The University of Southern Mississippi's Trent Lott National Center for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship and the Department of Economic Development and Tourism.  The study evaluated the feasibility of a grocery store being sustainable in the small rural town of Itta Bena, Mississippi. Due to a growing population of elderly and families with low vehicle access, Itta Bena leaders feel the need for a local grocery store. This study evaluated economic factors such as household income, population, demographics, distance to nearest grocery stores, and other factors influencing the sustainability of a grocery store.
