Guidelines for Receiving Freshman Scholarships
Students and parents should be fully aware of the policies governing the receipt of freshman scholarships at The University of Southern Mississippi.
Outcome letters for these selection processes will be mailed in late February (Honors College admission) and in March (Luckyday Foundation Citizenship Scholarship and Presidential Scholarship). You will receive an outcome letter only if you have fully completed and submitted all application materials. These letters will be mailed to you at the address you provided on your Application for Undergraduate Admission.
Correct Email Address
Emails will be generated to you at several different points throughout this scholarship application process. It is important that you verify the accuracy of the email address we have on file for you, as this is the email address the Office of Admissions will use to communicate with you.
It is your responsibility to ensure the timely completion and submission of electronic evaluations from recommenders. It is your responsibility to provide a valid email address for those individuals and to verify that they have successfully received email communication from the Office of Admissions.
Technical Difficulties with Application
Step 1: Log into the Competitive Programs Application.
The first step is to log in using your Southern Miss student ID number (a lower-case "w" followed by a 6-digit number, ex: w123456) and your password. A temporary password was generated for you at the point of application and mailed to you. If for some reason you have not permanently reset this password or are unable to retrieve your temporary password, reset it here.
Step 2: Verify that your information is correct.
At the beginning of the Competitive Programs Application, you will see a listing of the relevant information we have on file for you, such as your mailing address, email address, and your highest standardized test score. If you see that any element of your information is incorrect, you will be able to request that the Office of Admissions contact you to resolve any discrepancies.
Step 3: Choose the competitive program(s) for which you want to apply.
You will have to indicate which competitive program(s) for which you wish to be considered: admission to the Honors College/Presidential Scholarship consideration and the Luckyday Foundation Citizenship Scholarship. Please note that only Mississippi residents may be considered for the Luckyday Foundation Citizenship Scholarship. Also, please note that students who are offered admission to the Honors College and have a 30+ ACT score (or 1330+ combined SAT score) will receive consideration for the Honors College Discovery Scholarship and Honors College Presidential Scholarship.
Step 4: Complete all required application components by the extended deadline of midnight,
Once you have chosen the competitive programs for which you want to apply, you will be directed to your Student Dashboard. On the Student Dashboard, you can begin to complete and submit the various components of your program application and monitor the status of materials that others were asked to submit on your behalf. Please pay careful attention to the directions for each competitive program; only students with fully completed applications will receive consideration for these programs. It is your responsibility to follow up with others who have been requested to submit information or recommendations on your behalf.
