Southern Miss seeks to provide experiences that allow our traditional candidates the opportunity for more in-depth observations and for application of the knowledge base and pedagogical skills they have acquired.

These experiences include observation, assessment, planning, presentation, evaluation, action research, active participation and reflection. Traditional candidates spend a minimum of 30 hours in observation and practicum experiences and 16 weeks in their final field experience, which is completed in state-accredited schools.

At all levels of field experiences, candidates should be developing a repertoire of professional skills and competencies based on national and state standards and that will continue to prepare them to be outstanding educational professionals.
