Annual Student Show

IMPORTANT DATES 


  •  Feb. 28-March 1 2-D works must be delivered to the gallery between 10:00 a.m. Feb. 28 and 3:00 p.m. March 1 
  •  March 2 3-D entries must be set up in the 3-D building for jury selection before 8 a.m. 
  •  March 2 Jurors select works for the show. Gallery closed to students 
  •  March 5 Students pick up unselected 2-D work from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  •  March 6 Selected 3-D works delivered to the gallery between 10 a.m.– 5 p.m. 
  •  March 20 Reception and Awards 
  •  April 6 Show closes at 5 p.m. 
  •  April 9-10 Artworks must be picked up from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

 

 

CATEGORIES 


  • FINE ART CATEGORIES: Upper Level Drawing, Figure Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics 
  • GRAPHIC DESIGN CATEGORIES: Print, Packaging, Illustration, Typography, Interactive Web Design, Identity Campaigns (Logo Design and Branding), and Digital Photography 
  • FOUNDATIONS CATEGORIES: Drawing I and II, 2-D Design, Color Theory, and 3-D Design 

 

ELIGIBILITY


 

  •  Only currently enrolled students are eligible. 
  •  All studio course work produced by currently enrolled students since March 2, 2017 is eligible for entry. 
  •  Each student may enter up to 5 total works. 
  •  Students are encouraged to enter works in a variety of categories. 

 

ENTRY FORMS AND LABELS 


  • Entry forms are available on the Department of Art and Design page (https://artdesign.usm.edu/annual-student-show-submission/). 
  • Students must complete entry forms online. 
  • In addition to the entry form, students must complete entry labels. Entry labels must be filled out.
  • One entry label should be attached to the back of the artwork in the upper left corner as indicated on the entry form. 
  • Selected works not including both a printed, signed label and/or an online entry form will be omitted from the show. 

 

PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS 


  • 2-D works should be properly mounted or matted prior to delivery to the gallery. 
  • All framed works and paintings on canvas must be wired for hanging. 
  • 3-D works that sit on the floor should be designed so as not to scratch or damage the floor. 
  • Works requiring specialized installation are eligible, but if selected, must be installed by the student with supervision and approval of the gallery director. 
  • No works weighing more than 20 lbs. may be hung from the gallery ceiling.
