Examples of Ongoing Research

  • What do migratory birds eat during migration and how does food availability influence their behavior?
  • How do plants accumulate toxic metals? What environmental conditions promote metal uptake?
  • Which genes are turned on and off in fish and mussels in response to water pollution? Can we use such molecular responses as an indicator of stress?
  • What are the important factors in conserving forest habitats and maintenance of gopher tortoise breeding populations?
