We utilize
Learning
Center exhibits and
displays on our Biology Trail. The Biology Trail
is a program designed for school-age children
(but always welcome to parents and any
interested community member!) to learn about
biology. On the trail we tour the museum,
demonstrate how to use microscopes, and journey
to a couple of other locations on campus to
illustrate biological concepts. Every year
hundreds of students use the trail; they readily
admit to how much they learned, and are excited
to tell their families and friends about all the
interesting facts they discovered! We believe
the Biology Trail is vital because in many Mississippi schools, science education is
unfortunately lacking. The Biology Trail
provides both basic and in-depth biological
knowledge in a fun, informative manner.
Since science is always changing, the BSLC is
constantly growing and experiencing changes as
well. The goal of our
Learning
Center as well as the
University in general is to educate and enthuse.
We hope that all the different aspects,
opportunities and experiences the BSLC offers
will improve the community, since the main
purpose of the Learning Center
is to serve as an outreach to the community. We
offer the Learning Center
to the public, free of charge, because we want
people to not only see but experience science.
After all, it is through experiences that
lasting impacts are made.
