- Teaching and Research Assistantships.
Prospective graduate students are eligible for teaching assistantships, which carry an academic year stipend of $9,000 and $12,000 for master's and doctoral students, respectively, and can expect a summer stipend yielding annual support of $12,000 and $16,000, respectively. Teaching assistantships include a full tuition grant. Grant-supported research assistantships carry at least comparable support and a full tuition grant.
- Fellowships
The Department encourages students to
apply for competitive fellowships, and several of our
graduate students are supported by fellowships, which
carry a stipend, tuition waiver, and in some cases a
research/ educational allowance, during the 2006-2007
academic year.
GAANN Fellowships - Awards are
available to doctoral students through the Graduate
Assistance in Areas of National Need [GAANN] program
for Science and Mathematics. Each award includes a
financial supplement to existing support, and a
research/educational allowance.

- University Graduate
Assistantships
Prospective doctoral students are
encouraged to apply for University Graduate
Assistantships, which are available on a competitive
basis. Students in the Biological Sciences awarded a
University Graduate Assistantship receive a
$16,000.00/year stipend plus tuition over the course of
their graduate studies. Contact

- Health Insurance.
Basic and major medical health coverage is provided
to fulltime graduate students in good standing
academically.
- Travel Support.
The department
provides support for students to participate in
national and international scientific meetings,
conferences and workshops.
