Disability Accommodations for Commencement - Hattiesburg
Available on the west side of M.K. Turk Circle and on Kay James Drive. It can be accessed from West 4th Street. Kay James Drive can be accessed from M.K. Turk Circle or Montague Boulevard. See Commencement parking map. If you have difficulty finding handicap parking, please ask for assistance.
Available to provide transportation from parking on campus to the Reed Green Coliseum. Persons with disabilities should bring their own assistive personal devices (scooters, wheelchairs, walkers, etc.) so they can move independently in the coliseum.
Drop Off Area for Guests
On the north end (off West 4th Street) of Reed Green Coliseum. University workers will be there to escort guests with mobility problems entering the coliseum. Southern Miss can provide a wheelchair for transportation to and from the drop off area to inside the building. However, guests needing a wheelchair for seating purposes during the ceremony should bring their own due to wheelchair availability.
Accessible Guest Seating
Guests needing accessible seating are encouraged to arrive at least 1 ½ hours early. Persons with disabilities should bring their own assistive personal devices (scooters, wheelchairs, walkers, etc) so they can move independently in the coliseum.
Graduates Requiring Special Assistance
Students with disabilities requiring special assistance should call the Office for Disability Accommodations at 601.266.5024 one week ahead of time to make arrangements. Then, on the day of graduation, graduates needing assistance in getting to the commencement floor should go the north end (off West 4th Street) of Reed Green Coliseum. University workers will be there to assist you.
Sign Language Interpreting
This service will be available. For those who use sign language, seating can be reserved in the coliseum to get a better viewing angle. Please call the Office for Disability Accommodations at 601.266.5024 one week ahead to make special arrangements.
