While commencement ceremonies are celebrations for students and families, they are also ceremonial reminders of traditions of the academic institution, and faculty members have an important role.

Faculty Schedule for 10 a.m. Gulf Coast ceremony, May 11, 2013

8 a.m. – Mississippi Coast Coliseum open for volunteers

9 a.m. – Student candidates line up for processional

9:15 a.m. – Faculty assemble in the south entrance of the Coliseum

9:45 a.m. – Platform party assembles in Coliseum Green Room

10 a.m. – Processional begins

Faculty Regalia

Faculty participants are required to wear appropriate academic regalia. Faculty members have the option of wearing their own regalia, renting regalia or purchasing regalia through the Barnes & Noble Bookstore at Southern Miss. The regalia can be ordered and picked up at the Barnes & Noble at Southern Miss, Gulf Park Campus, Long Beach.

Cap and Gown Order Deadlines:

April 12: Last day to order cap and gown without late fee penalty

April 20: Last day to order cap and gown for Spring 2013 commencement ceremony

Cap and Gown pickup:

Tuesday, May 7:  9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Wednesday, May 8:  9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Thursday, May 9:  9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Friday, May 10:  9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Caps and gowns will be available at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Saturday, May 11, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

Rental gowns should be left in the chair on the Coliseum floor area at the close of the ceremony.

Faculty Parking

Parking is available for faculty in the south lot of the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

Faculty Check-in and Lineup

Faculty will check in at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum by 9:15 a.m. for the 10 a.m. ceremony. Please be reminded that personal items may not be secured at the Coliseum; therefore, personal items are discouraged. 

Hooding Professors

Information for faculty who will be hooding a doctoral candidate will be provided by the Graduate School. 

Faculty Processional

After the students and the platform party have processed, all faculty will march into the coliseum. Faculty members who need special assistance should contact the Office of Disability Accommodations at 601.266.5024 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting.

Faculty Recessional

Faculty members will form a double line in the center isle for the student recessional.
