GAS LEAK PROCEDURES POLICY
Anyone detecting a gas leak in family and special interest housing should report it immediately.
Reason for Policy/Purpose
This policy is required for the effective communication of university policy regarding gas leak procedures in family and special interest housing.
Who Needs to Know This Policy
All students of The University of Southern Mississippi community living in family and special interest housing.

A gas leak is any situation where someone has detected or reported a smell of gas or gas is believed to be leaking from a pipe or another source. Gas leaks are considered serious and potentially dangerous and need to be reported immediately.
Exit the building and apartment immediately. Prop front door open on your way out in order to ventilate the apartment of gas. DO NOT use matches, lighters, electrical switches, appliances or your telephone inside the apartment.
Call UPD at 601.266.4986 or 911 after exiting the building. Call the Pine Haven resident manager at 601.266.2705 or 601.543.3997 and inform him/her of the possible gas leak.
DO NOT re-enter the building or apartment until it has been declared safe to do so by emergency personnel. If gas service must be turned off, know that it may not be restored until the following day.
The Director of Student Housing Administration is responsible for the review of this policy every four years (or whenever circumstances require immediate review).
