Computer Requirements

Required Notebook Computer (print version)
For designated courses, students are required to provide their own notebook computer. Although it is strongly encouraged that students purchase the best available technology in order to meet future requirements, computers must currently meet the following minimum requirements:

• Microsoft® Windows® PC (32-bit recommended) **
• Intel® 3.0 GHz or greater
• 2 GB RAM or greater
• 100GB+ hard drive
• Microsoft Internet Explorer
• DVD-RW drive
• Mouse with scroll wheel
• USB 2.0 ports
• 802.11 a wireless LAN (Integrated 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless LAN recommended) with Eagle Air Network or other wireless internet access available on campus

Additionally, students will be required to obtain a variety of software programs * for their notebook computer, including, but not limited to:

• Autodesk AutoCAD (Reduced Student Version price available, 32-bit or 64-bit)
• Autodesk Revit Architecture (FREE download available)
• Adobe Photoshop (Adobe InDesign or Creative Suite recommended)
• Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint (Publisher optional)
• 20-20 Design (Special course purchase price, 32-bit only)
• Configura CET Designer (FREE download available through course)
• Google Sketchup (FREE download available)

* It is strongly advised that students purchase software on an as needed basis.

** Please note that the University of Southern Miss has not approved Windows® Vista or Microsoft Office 2007 for use on campus. The University of Southern Miss Interior Design Program does allow students to purchase computers with these software programs. However, the University of Southern Miss Interior Design Program does not support Mac hardware, software, or Windows® based software installed on a Mac system.
