About the Oboe Studio
Welcome to the Oboe Studio at the University of Southern Mississippi! The students who make up the oboe studio are enthusiastic and dedicated to their pursuit of musical excellence. We work hard in an atmosphere of creative pursuit of students' individual goals, while supporting and encouraging each other. Alumni of the Southern Miss oboe studio have successfully auditioned for and continued their musical studies at esteemed schools of music and conservatories across the nation.
For oboists of all levels, the program is focused around a firm grounding of the fundamentals of tone production, finger agility, and expressive musical phrasing. These fundamentals are refined through the practice of long-tones, technique methods, memorized scales, articulation exercises, Barret and Ferling etudes, orchestral excerpts, solo repertoire, and reed-making.
