The School of Polymers and High Performance Materials at the University of Southern Mississippi offers undergraduate and graduate programs leading to Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Polymer Science as well as Sports & High Performance Materials, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Polymer Science & Engineering and Sports & High Performance Materials.

General: Sports and High Performance Materials Student Places First in Research Awards at Science Symposium Posted by Bret Calhoun on 2009-03-04 12:52:24 CST

Three student researchers from The University of Southern Mississippi College of Science and Technology won first place at the 2009 Alliance for Graduate Education in Mississippi (AGEM) Winter Scholar Symposium Jan. 22-24, 2009 in Jackson, Miss.

Southern Miss doctoral students Olivia McNair and Wilfredo Matamoros, along with undergraduate presenter Rupesh Patel received first place in their respective categories. Matamoros and Patel both competed in the biology and environmental sciences category, while McNair presented in the chemistry, polymer science and pharmacy category.

Dr. Lon J. Mathias, Professor of Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Southern Mississippi, has been awarded Fellow status by the American Chemical Society Division of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering. Dr. Mathias has been at Southern Miss over 28 years and is responsible for the Polymer Science Learning Center and the Macrogalleria in addition to his many other outstanding educational and scientific contributions.
