Solutions at the Intersection of Data and the Public Interest

The Institute is dedicated to the design and application of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and advanced statistical analysis to public interest issues facing our country and the world today. We explore new applications of existing technologies and develop our own approaches to solving complex problems within the context of a broad range of domains related to data. Our research portfolio is rapidly expanding as we seek to identify new areas where advanced analytics can help better assist our community, state, and nation.

Dr. Henry Jones Presenting Information on the Project to Col. Lee Henry and LTC. Jim Barry
The Institute for Advanced Analytics and Society (IAAS) played a key role in facilitating the military and academic collaboration behind the recent Gulf Coast acoustic demonstration hosted by The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in partnership with The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and several other industry partners. The demonstration brought together expertise from multiple institutions to advance maritime sensing technologies on autonomous platforms, showcasing Mississippi’s leadership in national defense and the blue economy through real-world maritime testing.

IAAS was responsible for coordinating the military collaboration that enabled expansion of Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) into the maritime environment. By bridging connections between the National Guard, research universities and private industry, IAAS helped ensure the project served both defense and educational goals. This work underscores IAAS’s commitment to creating opportunities where students and researchers can discover innovative solutions while connecting with broader professional communities.

Reflecting on the importance of these partnerships, Dr. Henry Jones of IAAS, said “Collaborations like this are excellent ways to learn, find new solutions and expose students to broader communities while strengthening our collective ability to advance critical maritime operations and technology.”
