Details

This program is an institution-wide response to the increasing number of students who lack access to required course material due to cost. This program makes getting textbooks easier on students, which will ultimately improve their success at USM. Eagle Direct Textbooks is estimated to reduce the cost of traditional textbook purchases by an average of 40 to 50% and provide them by the first day of class.

We encourage students to enjoy deeply discounted and guaranteed course material for the first day of class. We also understand this program may not meet the needs of every student. If you do not wish to participate in the program, you will need to opt-out every semester.

Students will have the ability to opt out once they have registered for their courses in SOAR. The opt-out page link becomes available when the term is active and you have registered for classes, and will only be available until the first add/drop deadline (6 working days into the semester).

To opt out, log into the new Campus Experience Dashboard, access the Opt In/Out page under the menu item “ Student Account” and clicking on “Eagle Direct Textbooks” link.

Yes, you can change your decision until the first day of class. Keep in mind you will need to return your textbooks if you have already received them prior to opting out.  If you drop a class after the first day, you can receive a credit for those course hours when you return your course materials.

You can opt out and opt back in only once through the first add/drop deadline of the semester (6 working days into the semester).

Students will receive emails to remind them to verify their order. All students will get charged unless they opt out whether they verify an order or not.

Yes. Unless you opt-out, your materials will be held at the bookstore and your student account will be charged.

You may return the book to the USM’s Barnes & Noble bookstore on the same terms and timelines currently in place. If you drop a class and enroll in a different class, revisit the email link to verify changes and select your delivery method. Or, visit the bookstore, and they will “swap” the required textbooks and codes, so that you have what you need.

Yes, you will have 48 hours to return your textbooks. If you do not return the textbooks, the charges for the program will go back onto your student account.

This program is designed to be an all-in or all-out solution to bring affordability to campus.

Students have the ability to opt-out of the program through the first day of classes.

For program questions, please contact the bookstore by emailing sm045@bncollege.com or calling 601-266-4381.

USM’s Barnes & Noble bookstore website will provide the level of detail needed for a student to make the best decision for their situation.

We are committed to protecting all personal information and take the utmost precautions to secure and store data.

The data provided to the bookstore is only used to help us deliver all your course materials based upon your selected courses.

No. We are committed to the safeguarding of all personal information.

USM and Barnes & Noble are both focused on delivering affordable course materials options to our students. Eagle Direct Textbooks is a full-service course material program that delivers a highly personalized experience for students, retains faculty choice of course materials, and delivers deep savings to students. Barnes & Noble is also our contracted bookstore provider; thus, we coordinate all things textbook related with them.

Payment

This program will cost a flat fee of $20 per credit hour, regardless of how much each individual textbook would cost if you purchased separately.

This program charge will be included on the student SOAR account, along with other charges such as tuition and fees. This allows a student to use Financial Aid, scholarships, etc. to pay for their course materials. Supplies are not included in this program and will need to be purchased separately. If you add extra merchandise upon verifying your order, you will need to pay the bookstore with a debit or credit card.

The program will be handled in the same fashion as all other tuition and fees, and refunds will be processed in accordance with existing deadlines and procedures.  However, if you pick up your course materials but do not return them within 48 hours of dropping the course, you will owe the cost of the textbook.

The student would need to work directly with the bookstore, and payment will be accepted by the bookstore. Charges for purchasing a book are not transferred to your student account.

Materials

Required course material is provided in the format requested by the faculty.  Your bundle could have a mix of physical and digital materials depending on the adopted format.

We are committed to providing accessible material, and the bookstore team can help with any special requests.  Contact the bookstore by emailing sm045@bncollege.com for more information.

Students who have disabilities or meet the criteria outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) should register with Student Accessibility Services (SAS).
